A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE T.L. WESTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GOLDEN EAGLES BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998-1999 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the T.L. Weston High School Boys Golden Eagles Basketball Team finished the 1998-1999 season with an outstanding record of 28 wins and only 8 losses, winning the Class 4A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, throughout the Golden Eagles' season, they won several tournaments, including the West Tallahatchie Invitational Tournament, the Leland Invitational Tournament, the District 3 Class 4A Tournament and the North State District 3 Class 4A Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Golden Eagles have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jerry Stephenson and Assistant Coach George Christian, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon the players, including: the selection of Willie Brooks to the Mississippi Coca-Cola All-Star Team, the All-Division Team and the All-State Team; the naming of Quincy Liger to the All-Division Team and the All-State Team; the selection of Calvin Newkirk to the All-State Team; and the naming of Lakendrick Powell to the All-Division Team; and

WHEREAS, the Golden Eagles have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to T.L. Weston High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the T.L. Weston High School Boys Golden Eagles Basketball Team, Head Coach Jerry Stephenson and Assistant Coach George Christian for their outstanding 1998-1999 season, for winning the Class 4A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished T.L. Weston High School, Head Coach Jerry Stephenson, Assistant Coach George Christian and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
